The impressive front of the Tavern provides a Colonial feel from the time you walk through the front doors. Located on the campus of Berea College, Boone's Tavern is a unique stay for anyone.
The decor of inside the tavern is rustic, but inviting and welcoming. The rooms range in size and have various amenities. Our room was very close to the elevator and stairwell, located on the 3rd floor,
We had breakfast the next morning before leaving, once again, there were limited menu options so we settled for biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs on the side. The downside that is always common with biscuits and gravy is the ratio of gravy to biscuits. There was not enough gravy with the biscuits.
We stayed the night in the hotel as well, the rooms vary in size but all have rustic decor and feel.
The first rule of spoonbread is do not ever try to get spoonbread during the Spoon-bread festival in Berea. Save yourself time and trouble by just going to Boone Tavern and getting it there. The Tavern is beautiful but pricey and has a limited menu. I love the rustic feel of the place. I had a sweet onion soup to start off, it was like French onion soup with Gruyere cheese. Jennifer had the trout cakes, which were an interesting take on the traditional style crab cakes. I was going to have the grilled ribeye, which is a 12-oz ribeye, (Med rare, of course), cooked in a garlic herb butter glaze with a truffle pomme pave' which is a very thin sliced potato dish. I had to look that up because I had no idea what it was. Priced at $48,00 is is somewhat pricey. But they opted for a cheaper option of the Wilderness Burger instead. My wife had the Chicken Saltimbocca, which is a chicken wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with ham and mushrooms, along with smashed potatoes on the side. The downside to the dining is the limited menu. The Flourless Cake is amazing, and so is the Ky Butter-brown Cake
Boone Tavern is located right in the middle of Berea College. One of the founding ideas of Berea College was that “impartial love” should be extended to everyone regardless of race, gender, or class. That idea was radical in 1855 and it’s still radical today. The area shops offer a variety of local artists. At the Berea Arts Center, you can shop for Kentucky crafts & fine art; explore special exhibits and events; enjoy Kentucky cuisine; experience Kentucky hospitality; learn about Kentucky art and artists; discover other must-see places; and enjoy full rest stop services. There is plenty of on-site parking, including pull through spaces for buses and RVs.The Kentucky Artisan Center is free and open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. The cafe is open daily from 9am to 4pm.
Staying at Boone Tavern is comfortable and relaxing. The level of service at this establishment was truly exceptional. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. What truly stood out, however, was the staff's commitment to customer satisfaction. Any requests or inquiries were handled promptly and with a genuine willingness to assist. Whether it was arranging recommending local attractions, or addressing any concerns, the staff exhibited a level of professionalism and courtesy that made a significant impact.
The combination of exceptional service, immaculate accommodations, and thoughtful amenities created a positive and memorable experience.
While here, we had to stop at one of the local attractions, the new Buc-ee's A popular convenience store and gas station. The state's first Buc-ee's has been open since April 2022, and is at the corner of I-75 and Duncannon Lane.
If you are thru the area visiting in Berea, check out Boone's Tavern, nestled among many craft shops that you will most certainly find something to catch your eye, but don't forget your wallet $$$$$$$
